Consultant – community health engagement advocacy

Maria hopes to guide professionals in how to approach conversations about gender and sexuality in the Latinx community while respecting their culture, traditions and values that are still so deeply rooted in our community. She will share personal experience in coming to terms with her own gender identity as a Latinx, immigrant, mother of a Latino male, and how they navigated between three to four communities; Latinx, rainbow, and the American culture plus others. Maria will share how this life experience lead me to be politically involved, and guided me to become a community activist, and community health educator within the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous People of Color) Immigrant community.

Maria will be presenting "Working with the Latinx LGBTQIA2S+ Communities."

What can I expect?

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersexual, asexual, and two spirit (LGBTQIA2S+) people often do not seek health care because of barriers and discrimination.

Join us in June to learn from a diverse group of presenters about health care and health challenges in our LGBTQIA2S+ communities and engage in Q&A sessions.

The presenters, who all identify as LGBTQIA2S+, are working to improve health within mainstream health care and in their cultural communities. You will also hear from voices often under-represented in health care.
